Job Description:

The University of Florida invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to join the BioVision Lab, led by Dr. Arthur Porto. This position focuses on developing and applying cutting-edge AI models to enhance biodiversity research, with an emphasis on biological collections and trait analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing our understanding of biodiversity through innovative AI approaches.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement AI-based techniques for trait extraction and classification of biodiversity data. Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies for analyzing large-scale biological datasets. Conduct independent research, prepare manuscripts, and present findings at conferences and workshops. Collaborate with team members on various aspects of AI applications in biodiversity research.

Desired Start Date:  February 1st, 2025; depending on availability.

Duration: This position will be initially awarded for one year, and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for up to one additional year.

Expected Salary:

$60,000 – $62,000; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biology, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with biodiversity databases and datasets. Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) Familiarity with phylogenetics and its applications in biodiversity research. Knowledge of computer vision techniques applied to biological collections.
