Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in hand by May 2025. Experience in biochemistry, primary cell culture, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy, and knowledge of different statistical analyses.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Knowledge in the neuroscience field.
+ Experience with culturing human pluripotent stem cells and differentiating them into neurons and astrocytes.
+ Knowledge and mastery of mitochondrial and metabolic analyses.
+ Experience in RNA-seq analyses.
**Brief Description:**
An NIH-funded Postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the Ballas lab (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/biochem/research/\_faculty/ballas/#ResearchandPublications) in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/neurobiology/) , at Stony Brook University. The project aims to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett syndrome with a focus on neuron-astrocyte interactions. We use patient iPSC-based models as well as mouse models.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated candidate, with experience in molecular cellular biology preferably in the neuroscience field. The candidate will employ multidisciplinary approaches to understand the molecular and cellular aberrations occurring in human astrocytes with Rett syndrome-causing mutation in the MeCP2 gene, and how these aberrations affect the ability of astrocytes to support neurons. The successful candidate will perform research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
**Duties:**
+ Collect and analyze data for reporting experimental results in scientific publications.
+ Assist with training of other lab members in specialized scientific techniques.
+ Participate in weekly lab meetings presenting research data.
+ Other duties as assigned, which may include attending and presenting research results at Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
