The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for the Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral position. The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate's skills and experience in their area of expertise.
**Postdoctoral Associate**
**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent). Experience working on ecological research. Experience with advanced statistics for answering ecological questions. Experience programming in R, Matlab, or other statistical languages.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in biology, ecology, marine science or a closely related field. Experience working with oceanographic and zooplankton data. Experience studying bioenergetics.
**Brief Description of Duties:**
The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/) under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Lesley Thorne (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/\_profiles/lesley-thorne.php) . The selected candidate will examine historical data from waters of Southern New England and New York to assess spatiotemporal changes to the species composition, abundance, distribution and energy density of North Atlantic right whale prey. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.
**Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:**
● Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, analyze data and develop models assessing right whale prey.
● Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
● Work collaboratively with project and lab members on project objectives, participate in lab meetings and training sessions.
● Present at scientific conferences.
● Prepare reports and presentations for meetings with funders.
● Other duties as assigned.
**Senior Postdoctoral Associate**
**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent). Three (3) years related research experience. Experience working on ecological research. Experience with advanced statistics for answering ecological questions. Experience programming in R, Matlab, or other statistical languages.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in biology, ecology, marine science or a related field. Experience working with oceanographic and zooplankton data. Experience studying bioenergetics. Relevant publications or fellowship in quantitative ecology and/or statistics.
**Brief Description of Duties (Senior Postdoctoral Associate):**
The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/) under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Lesley Thorne (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/\_profiles/lesley-thorne.php) , working on highly complex, and technically broad challenges and problems such as spatiotemporal changes to the species composition, abundance, distribution and energy density of North Atlantic right whale prey. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.
**Senior Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:**
● Analyze data and develop models assessing right whale prey.
● Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
● Work collaboratively with project and lab members on project objectives, participate in lab meetings and training sessions.
● Present at scientific conferences.
● Prepare reports and presentations for meetings with funders.
● Other duties as assigned.
**Special Notes:**
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
