General Notes

This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge or some familiarity with prominent workflows in data science and machine learning, data ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading), various commercial and open source fluid flow simulation packages (included but not limited to CMG, Eclipse, etc) and be able to contribute to the codes/algorithm development (Python) in a group of Engineers, Data Scientists, and Geologist.

Responsibilities

Research and development in reservoir engineering and data science with focus on application to carbon capture, utilization and storage.Fund raising from state, federal and industry to carry out fundamental and applied research in relevant topics.Public outreach and communication of the results of the research including attending conferences and meetings.

Required Qualifications

Expertise in developing various machine learning models and neural networks. Ability to implement the practical application of advanced data & analytics methodologies (e. g., data mining, fuzzy logic, ANN s, AI, machine learning, statistics, etc.) to geoscience. Proven capacity for innovative, creative scientific analysis. Ph.D. in petroleum engineering, computer sciences, electrical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, geophysics, or related field. Proven publication skills and verbal communication skills with a variety of audiences. Ability to work both independently and effectively in a group. Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines, including engineers, data scientist, geologists. PhD must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the application of various advanced data & analytics and statistical methodologies to large geophysical, petrophysical, geologic, reservoir and other subsurface data sets. Knowledge of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Broad skills base with deep expertise in certain areas, such as geomechanics, stratigraphy, 3D seismic interpretation, log analysis, and/or basin modelling. Familiarity with fluid flow modeling (CCUS modeling experience is a plus).

Salary Range

$65,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
