Job Overview

The Department of Physics at University of Cincinnati invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in cosmology to begin in fall 2025. The successful applicant will join the research group of Professor Jahmour Givans, who will join the department in August 2025. Prof. Givans’ research group employs theory, simulations, and data analysis to better model cosmological systems and test the validity of the Lambda-cold dark matter paradigm. The postdoctoral fellow will have flexibility to pursue any research program related to the above goal, and will have the opportunity to carry out work for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration, and Simons Observatory.

As part of their duties, the postdoctoral fellow is encouraged to provide mentorship and project supervision for graduate and/or undergraduate students. This position includes funds for professional travel, professional membership dues, publication fees, and computing costs. It also offers a competitive salary with health benefits. This is a three-year appointment with the third year contingent on mutual agreement by both parties.

Essential Functions

 

•              Under close supervision , conceptualize and conduct research projects on theory, simulations, and data analysis to better model cosmological systems and test the validity of the Lambda-cold dark matter paradigm.

•              Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.

•              Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.

•              Train, teach techniques to, and mentor junior researchers.

•              Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.

•              Establish and manage collaborations with other research groups.

•              Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.

•              Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.

 

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of appointment, must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field.
