Purpose

The Young Lab (https://sites.utexas.edu/beccayoungevodevolab/) in the Department of Integrative Biology at UT Austin seeks a highly motivated and collaborative colleague to lead research focused on understanding the developmental and evolutionary processes driving phenotypic diversity in vertebrate systems. We use comparative developmental biology and genomics to investigate how genes (regulation, function, and sequence) contribute to convergence and diversification in complex traits (e.g., the evolution of reproductive ecology in frogs).

The successful applicant will have a background in evolutionary, developmental, or organismal biology and possess field and lab-based skills to collaborate on the development of various experimental approaches to address these questions in vertebrate systems.

This position offers a unique leadership role in a dynamic, collaborative, and growing lab, with ample opportunities to publish and contribute to the lab’s strategic direction by leading independent research projects that integrate ecological, developmental, and molecular approaches.

Responsibilities

Develop and pursue novel lab, field, and computational research questions and approaches toward understanding the developmental and evolutionary origins of complex traits

Dissemination of results to scientists and the general public via software code and tools, publications, reports, and presentations
