General Notes
This position is located at J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose
The Gulf Coast Carbon Center is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct micromodel laboratory experiments and pore-scale numerical simulations to characterize multiphase flow properties from field cores to assist with geologic characterization effort of a CO2 injection site.

Responsibilities

Conduct microfluid experiments of CO2 injection into brine-filled fluidic cells.

Conduct direct pore-scale multiphase flow simulations of CO2 and brine.

Public outreach and communication of the results of the research including attending conferences and meetings.
 

Required Qualifications

PhD in geosciences or engineering with a focus on energy applications. Experience with any kinds of laboratory experimental work including but not limited to micromodel, micro-CT, coreflooding, or sandtank. Experience in fluid flow dynamic modeling at any scale (e.g. pore-scale, core-scale, or the field scale, etc.). Ability to use flow experiments and/or simulations to qualify relative permeability and capillary pressure functions, displacement, recovery efficiency, and trapping mechanisms. Ability to learn quickly, and to work both independently and effectively in a group.

PhD must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The ability to work with multiphase flow data at various scales (e.g. pore-scale to field-scale). Experience with commercial reservoir simulators (e.g. CMG, MRST, Eclipse, etc.). Proven publication skills. Demonstration of effective verbal communication and presentation skills.

Salary Range

$65,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
