Postdoctoral Fellow - Radiation Physics (Netherton's Lab)
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Radiation Physics. This is a full-time position in Dr. Tucker Netherton's lab. The trainee will work on medical physics and data science projects. These projects will use medical imaging (e.g. CT, MRI, PET/CT) data and other metadata from radiology and radiation oncology treatments to create novel methods for image segmentation and radiation treatment planning. Projects will involve leveraging Big Data and AI to create innovative algorithms for both high and low-resource cancer centers. This position is for at least 2 years and focuses on 1) multi-modality total body lymph node segmentation and 2) novel methods for cervical cancer image segmentation and treatment planning for high and low-resource cancer centers. **LEARNING OBJECTIVES** -Gain an advanced understanding of deep and machine learning and apply it to problem solving in medicine. -Develop data science, health equity, and data governance skills that are aligned with the mission of MD Anderson. -Improve scientific design, writing, collaborative science and communication. -Learn how algorithms can be leveraged to help low resource centers fill gaps in resources. -One-on-one mentorship will be provided by Dr. Netherton within his Lab. The projects also involve close collaboration with internal and international research groups. **ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS** PhD; Python (at least intermediate skill level is required), image processing, machine learning in medicine, demonstrates and has history of desire to learn, ability to work on a team, good character, and ability to complete work in an academic environment. Skills in deep generative AI is a plus. **ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION** These projects will involve close collaboration with radiation oncologists, data scientists, and computer scientists. The skills learned will be applicable to the fields of clinical medical physics and data science. Houston is a large, diverse city with much to do! **POSITION INFORMATION** MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000 (https://trainees.mdanderson.org/apply/mdaPostdoctoralFellowStipendFY24.pdf) . depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
