Recruitment/Posting Title Postdoctoral Position in support of Research to Develop an Integrative Framework for Addressing Gambling Among College Athletes Department School of Social Work Salary Annual Salary Posting Summary The Center for Gambling Studies (CGS) at the Rutgers School of Social Work (SSW) is seeking a postdoctoral scholar interested in gaining further experience in gambling or behavioral addictions research. This position is funded by the New Brunswick Chancellor Strategic Initiatives Funding, and will report to and receive mentorship from Dr. Lia Nower, Distinguished Professor and Director of the CGS.
The CGS is a research, policy and training center located at Rutgers SSW, a well-funded school with a portfolio that exceeds 50 million dollars. Rutgers SSW, is ranked #16 among MSW programs in the nation, and is among the largest and most diverse social work programs in the United States, offering BASW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees to over 2,000 diverse students across three campuses in Camden (Philadelphia metropolitan area), Newark (New York metropolitan area), and New Brunswick, the flagship campus.
The postdoc will join the team at the CGS and assist with all tasks associated with developing an integrative university framework to educate on, identify, and address gambling, problem gambling, and related disorders among student athletes. The scholar will contribute to and assist with all aspects of research, including conducting an environmental scan and needs assessments, running focus groups, developing online tutorials, overseeing the collection of data, planning and carrying out quantitative and qualitative analyses, presenting results at research conferences, and preparing manuscripts for publication. In addition, the scholar will contribute to and gain experience in translating our framework to other university environments.
The postdoc will receive various career development opportunities including but not limited to submission of peer-reviewed articles and grants, expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis, working across interactive gaming modalities and research areas, and training on dissemination and translation of findings to diverse audiences including scholars, university stakeholders, and athletes, coaches and students domestically and internationally.The position will begin between July 1 and September 1, 2024. The duration of the postdoctoral fellowship is for one year; however, renewal for a second year is possible and based on performance and available funding. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, interested in forging collaborative relationships with faculty and doctoral students, and have a strong commitment to social justice. The postdoc will be part of a vibrant cohort of postdoctoral scholars at Rutgers SSW engaged in research that aims to reduce health disparities and ensure racial, social, and economic justice. As part of this cohort, postdocs will engage in trainings on various topics and have the support of the faculty to begin their own research trajectory.
Essential job functions will include:· Planning, organizing, coordinating, and participating in scientific research projects.· Working closely with principal investigator and co-investigator as well as the CGS assistant director and other CGS staff.· Develop and/or recommend strategies for integrating education, intervention, prevention, and/or counseling into a wholistic framework.· Provide expertise and services on data management, analysis, and interpretation.· Provide experience-based recommendations and research direction as requested on studies conducted by, or on the behalf of, the principal investigators.· Conduct research activities (extensive literature reviews) and edit reports, presentations, and other documents.· Present findings of research to professional groups.· Develop scientific documents for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
