Who we are The Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics is one of four basic science departments within the Texas A&M University School of Medicine. Program strengths within the department include brain development, cellular/molecular basis of drug addiction, circadian biology, ocular pharmacology and experimental therapeutics, neurobiology of aging, acute brain and spinal cord injury models, and neurodegenerative diseases. The Geoffroy lab is adjacent to many interdisciplinary groups of investigators who focus on the processes that cause spinal cord injury, neurological disorders ranging from epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease. What we want The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Geoffroy lab in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics, School of Medicine at Texas A&M University. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for an NIH-funded project focused on aging, astrocytes and mitochondrial functions in the context of spinal cord injury. Major techniques for this project include rodent surgeries and behavioral analysis, primary cell isolation and culture, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence & confocal microscopy, bioinformatics and sequencing. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment, and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding. Required Education and Experience: + Appropriate doctoral degree Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others Preferred Qualifications: + PhD. in Neurobiology, Biology, or related fields + Experience in neuron culture + Experience in transcriptomics + Experience in drug screening + Experience in virus making + Experience in vivo surgery in rodents + Small animal surgeries, histology, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, cell culture, behavior testing + Candidates should have excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills + Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills Responsibilities: Experimental Research: + Performs mouse surgeries including spinal cord injury surgeries + Performs behavioral assessments, including locomotor function and colonic activity in mice + Performs brain and spinal cord histology and microscopy imaging + Performs drug screen on neurons, glial cells + Performs transcriptomic analyzes Data recording and analysis: + Collects, records, maintains and analyzes experimental/research data + Prepares manuscripts for publication of research results General lab duties: + Assists in managing mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and recordkeeping + Supervises undergraduate research assistants + Performs other duties as assigned Why Texas A&M University?
