Job Title Postdoctoral Research Associate Agency Texas A&M Agrilife Research Department Soil & Crop Sciences Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Job Responsibilities -Characterizes microbiomes and specific microorganisms using culture- and molecular-based techniques. May periodically require overnight travel and work outside of normal business hours (i.e., nights and weekends) in order to collect and process samples. -Publishes research in peer-reviewed journals. Assist with writing reports for funding sources. -Assist with writing proposals for grants and pursuit of funding opportunities to support the program. -Assist with supervision of other laboratory personnel for research projects and teaching activities. -Performs other duties as required. Required Education: -PhD in Soil Science or related field. Preferred Experience: -Experience with molecular techniques including DNA sequencing and bioinformatics analyses. -Experience with microbiological techniques for isolating, culturing, and identifying microorganisms. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: -Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment. -Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities: -Experience working with complex microbiome samples (e.g., soil). -Experience with transcriptomics including RNA-Seq. -Experience working in Biosafety Level 2 laboratory. -Experience culturing anaerobic bacteria. -Strong publication record.
