The Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of vet erinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major vet erinary educational, medical, and research center. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct skeletal health and repair research using genetic mouse models.

Required Education
+ Appropriate doctoral degree in Physiology and/or Biomedical Sciences
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and technical equipment
+ Ability to effectively use a computer and applicable software to create data bases, perform statistical analysis
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
+ Mouse handling and genotyping
+ Standard laboratory techniques, such as Western blotting, histology, DNA and RNA manipulation
+ Tissue culture, general molecular techniques, RT-PCR
*The well-qualified candidate will also possess experience with mouse surgeries, as well as molecular and cell biology techniques.
Responsibilities
+ Research: Designs, plans, conducts and coordinates experiments in support of various research projects. Evaluates, selects, and applies appropriate research techniques. Performs experimental analysis of tissue samples, including histological assessment and immunostaining of specimens. Defines problems and possible solutions. Interprets and reports experimental results. Serves as the primary researcher in an upcoming NIH-funded project that investigates fracture repair deficits in obesity. Provides primary management of genetic mouse colonies through crosses, weaning, diet challenges and subsequent tracking. Performs and participates in mouse survival surgeries, blood draws and other tissue biopsy sampling. Assist with lab management (instrument maintenance and repair, supply inventory, prepare solutions) as needed.
+ Record Keeping: Maintains and records all experimental work in the research notebook or electronic medium as directed by PI. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and data.
+ Mentoring: Assists in training and supervision of less experienced lab members, undergraduate and graduate students in methods and approach used in the research. Manages student workers as they halter break the lambs and perform other sheep handling procedures
+ Presentations: Summarizes results to include in presentations, reports, grants and abstracts. Writes scientific manuscripts. Presents research results at national or international conferences and workshops. Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study. Reports on progress and presents results to PI and other project participants in group meetings and other meetings.
