Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics – Weaver Lab

The Weaver Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a creative and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to study mechanisms of DNA repair in chromatin.

The Weaver Lab is dedicated to unraveling mechanisms of DNA repair in chromatin and harnessing these mechanistic insights to improve human health. Current research projects in the lab aim to: (1) Determine how DNA damage impacts chromatin structure, stability, and dynamics; (2) Determine how DNA repair enzymes identify and process DNA damage in chromatin; and (3) Determine how chromatin-modifying enzymes regulate chromatin structure to facilitate DNA repair. The lab addresses these research aims using a powerful combination of biochemistry, single-molecule fluorescence microscopy, structural biology, and cellular biology approaches.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of their research or scholarship during the training period.

The successful candidate will:

Engage in full-time research or scholarship at the University.

Lead their own research project and significantly contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to their research project under the guidance of Dr. Weaver.

Perform rigorous documentation of research records.

Obtain significant training and expertise in advanced laboratory techniques utilized in the Weaver Lab.

Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Prepare and apply for relevant postdoctoral grants and/or fellowships under the guidance of Dr. Weaver.

Assist in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students, and laboratory technicians in advanced laboratory techniques.
