Job Description

Experimental postdoc position is available in the NREL Materials Science Center, in the area of thin film synthesis and characterization of novel oxide semiconductors using Pulsed Laser Deposition. The position would involve experimental studies of novel oxide semiconductor materials in thin film form. The position would support several basic and applied collaborative projects on materials discovery and development, in the area of ultra wide band gap semiconductors for high-power and high-temperature electronic devices, with the focus on interface science and reliability.

Possible extensions of the work include thin films of oxide materials used as oxygen ion and proton conductors in high-temperature ceramic electrolyzers and fuel cells, photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical solar cell contact materials, solar thermochemical hydrogen generation, neuromorphic computing devices, and other energy applications. This research would involve high throughput experimental methods including combinatorial deposition, spatially-resolved characterization, and automated data analysis. The job duties would also include setting up new and maintaining existing experimental equipment, and improving/creating data collection and analysis software.

The initial appointment is for 1 year with possible extension of up to 3 years total providing mutual satisfaction and availability of funds. Note: We encourage anyone who is interested in this opportunity to apply, even if they don't meet 100% of the position requirements. We seek dedicated people who believe they have the credentials, skills, and ambition to succeed at NREL to apply for this role.
