JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The laboratory of Professor Ruobo Zhou in the Department of Chemistry and in the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, at The Pennsylvania State University, seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position in the fields of Biophysics/Biochemistry/Bioengineering. The candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering, using cutting-edge imaging-based techniques, such as super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule detection methods, as well as high throughput “omics” approaches such as transcriptome-scale imaging methods to study the biological systems related to human diseases. Projects will involve multi-color super-resolution fluorescence imaging of protein organizations in neurons, cancer cells, and T-cells, and/or transcriptome-scale RNA imaging in neurons and T-cells. The applicant must have recently received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in an area broadly relevant to our research program by the time employment starts, such as a Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields. Experience with one or more of the following techniques would be preferred: optical microscopy, cell culture, cloning, quantitative image analysis, and/or computer programming (Matlab, Python, or similar). Knowledge in cell biology, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, or RNA biology would be a plus. Additional Information: Interested and qualified applicants must submit applications electronically to include a cover letter describing your background, prior training, and research interests, as well as a CV which includes a list of publications. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email for letters of reference. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one-year from the date of hire with a possibility of re-funding. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
