Required License/Registration/Certification N/A Physical Requirements Sitting for long periods of time, repetitive motion related to computer work, physical activity related to lab and fieldwork; including regular standing, walking, or sitting; using hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Shift Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, weekends or evenings may be required by project work. Responsibilities:
This position is for a postdoctoral scholar to support an NIH-funded community-engaged research project on drinking water disinfection byproducts in the Kentucky Water Research Institute. Disinfection byproducts, which are toxic chemicals formed during chlorination of drinking water, are among the most ubiquitous contaminants of drinking water in the United States and Globally. They are the primary source of Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level Violations in the US. The successful applicant will conduct research using both traditional and community-based participatory methods on the factors governing formation of and exposure to disinfection byproducts in rural drinking water systems as part of an NIEHS-funded research to action project. The applicant will also be enriched by participating in collaborations as part of UKs NIEHS-funded Environmental Health Sciences Core Center, UK-CARES, as well as the University of Kentucky Water Research Institute.
