Job Description * Our client is looking for a self-motivated, highly experienced Postgres DBA to join their team. This team will be rolling out Postgres DB. This individual will be responsible for tasks such as Installing new systems, planning and executing rolling updates/upgrades with minimum downtime, handling incidents for customers, managing internal test, development, and production systems as well as assisting development with performance optimizations. Database Administration: Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Postgres databases. Performance Optimization: SQL tuning, query optimization, and system performance monitoring. High Availability (HA): Implementation and management of HA solutions (e.g., replication, clustering). Disaster Recovery (DR): Design, implementation, and testing of DR plans. Backup and Recovery: Management of backup strategies and restoration procedures. Security: Ensuring database security through access control, encryption, and vulnerability management. Skills and Requirements In-depth knowledge of Postgres: Understanding of Postgres internals, architecture, and features. SQL expertise: Proficiency in SQL query writing, optimization, and performance tuning. Scripting: Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation tasks. HA and DR solutions: Familiarity with replication methods (e.g., WAL replication, logical replication), clustering (e.g., Patroni, pgpool-II), and DR strategies. Performance optimization: Knowledge of query optimization techniques, index creation, and performance monitoring tools. Backup and recovery: Understanding of backup methods, recovery procedures, and point-in-time recovery. Security: Awareness of security best practices, encryption methods, and vulnerability assessment.
