Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 01/06/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college and/or University. The Instructor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School. Description of Primary Duties The successful candidate will teach a 15/15 credit hour teaching load based on student demand for a fundamental chemistry course and lab and General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II courses and labs. The successful candidate will also create curriculum for assigned courses, complete student learning assessment reports for each course taught, advise students, and liaise with per course and dual credit chemistry faculty. The successful candidate is also expected to complete university and community service activities. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook (https://wp.missouristate.edu/facultysenate/faculty-handbook.htm) . Additional Qualifications The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 18 hours of graduate credit in Chemistry. Candidates must have experience teaching first and second year college chemistry courses, including experience in setting up and conducting chemistry labs. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and effective oral and written communication skills; have experience with a wide-range of instructional delivery systems; be familiar with student learning assessment processes; and demonstrate involvement in professional organizations and activities.
