Power Electronics Mechanical Engineer

Description:

Job Responsibilities:

•\tWork with others to bring our rapid prototype designs to market (creating new 3D Model packaging/layout using SOLIDWORKS).

•\tEnsure the designs are accurate and consistent with standard manufacturing/assembly processes.

•\tEnsure dimensioning on drawings are accurate.

•\tMaintain revision control for individual components for each part to ensure configuration is controlled at each phase.

•\tMaintain an excellent understanding of how the BOM structure supports all activities of the organization.

•\tDesign HW packaging for high power power electronics in enclosures considering EMC, EMI, thermal, and other requirements.

•\tWorks with system engineering to capture system requirements for utilizing the packages in the system architecture.

•\tWorks with service to create service plans and documentation for maintanence and repair of products.

•\tUtilizes DFM (Design For Manufacturing) and DFA (Design For Assembly) practices during the design process

•\tWorks with 3rd party vendors and internal customers to meet design project targets (cost, time).

•\tDemonstrates an intense focus on customer satisfaction.

•\tAssist team members in achieving project level budgets on assigned projects.

•\tFoster open communication among all technical and business functions, including sales, operations, and quality organizations.

•\tParticipate in an environment of continuous learning and driving standardization and high quality in design with a focus on manufacturability.

•\tEnsure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

•\tBachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

•\tStrong experience in power electronics physical design.

•\tSolid understanding of basic physics and electronics.

•\tStrong understanding of high frequency power stages, filtering, circuit protection, thermal and EMI/EMC considerations.

•\tProduct development process experience a must.

•\tExcellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening) and the ability to collaborate effectively both internally and externally with a diverse group of professionals.

•\tOrganized with the ability to multi-task.

•\tAbility to work independently and consistently meet deadlines.

•\tStrong process orientation/discipline and demonstrated application of problem-solving tools (e.g. Paretto, 5-Why Analysis, 8-D’s, etc.)

•\tUnderstanding of advanced CAD tools.

Desired Skills and Experience:

•\tExperience with SOLIDWORKS & SOLIDWORKS Electrical.

•\tExperience with Mechanical Packaging & Design.

•\tExperience with Voltage Spacings in Design.

•\tExperience with source repositories (PDM).

•\tExperience with regulation testing and certification (UL/CE/CSA).

•\tSignificant experience with high frequency. high power packaging with 20+ product launches on resume.

•\tDemonstrated development and/or applications expertise and experience with low-voltage (LV) Drives and Controls.

•\tStrong familiarity with power electronics equipment including switchgear, soft starters and VFDs.

•\tExperience operating in a power-electronics and industrial packaging manufacturing environment.

•\tStrong technical skills related to electrical engineering and power electronics.

•\tDemonstrated track record of creating/applying standard processes and problem-solving techniques/tools.
