Job Description
As a Power Electronics Test Engineer, you will be responsible for running electrical power safety tests, processing test results, and generating detailed test reports. You will collaborate closely with the High-Voltage Distribution, Battery, and Power Electronics design teams to develop and execute comprehensive test plans. Your role will also involve identifying and mitigating test execution hazards, and contributing to the commissioning of a new high-voltage test lab.
ResponsibilitiesRun electrical power safety tests and process test results.Develop test plans in collaboration with High-Voltage Distribution, Battery, and Power Electronics design teams.Root cause and recreate failures, document test data, and share results with the team to improve designs.Build appropriate electrical environments for each unit being tested by coordinating with firmware and hardware teams.Develop and run tests to abuse high-voltage/high-current joints and connectors.Identify the need for test equipment, specify, purchase, and integrate them.Recognize and mitigate test execution hazards.Assist in commissioning a new high-voltage test lab with new test chambers.Essential SkillsExperience with high voltage (480+ volts) and AC/DC systems.Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes.Awareness of safety measures and procedures in the lab, including PPE.Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience.Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components.Experience with test equipment like DMM, Oscilloscope, CAN Analyzer/Logger, Power Analyzer, Insulation Resistance Meter, Hi-pot, High Current/Voltage Source, and DAQ systems.Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other data analysis software.Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Understanding of hardware and software development processes.Effective communication skills and ability to remain proactive and positive in challenging circumstances.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with battery abuse testing, transformer testing, and break testing.Working understanding of how grid-tied storage systems function and interact with the grid.Work Environment
You will work in a lab environment at Deer Creek. The team is leveraging breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capabilities to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
