Summary
Power Origination Consultant - Represent Company in solicitations and negotiations with outside counterparties in the long-term procurement of conventional, renewable and energy storage resources.
What your day would be like:
+ Responsible for developing RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and executing successful contractual agreements either through purchase power agreements or equity ownership.
+ Effectively coordinate with internal Company departments so as to ensure that all facets of the Company's interests are reflected in the executed agreements.
+ Protect the Company's rights and minimize exposure to unique liabilities, finance risks and potential legal actions through the development and implementation of RFP parameters, custom contract provisions and regulatory strategy.
+ Monitor generating resource developments to ensure that project milestones during construction follow contract parameters and implement effective solutions for underperformance.
+ Effectively manage contractual arrangements for remedial generating resource performance once commercial status is obtained.
Minimum Requirements
Power Origination Consultant
+ Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related discipline with a
+ minimum of (3) three years' experience in commercial wholesale power negotiations, power marketing & trading, power contracts environment, an area of regulatory interface or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
+ Must have an in-depth knowledge of wholesale power contracting and credit and risk management principles that relate to the electric utility wholesale business, including federal and state regulatory policies, as well as a working knowledge of both renewable and conventional power plant technologies.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications
+ Demonstrated ability in the areas of negotiation and contract development, business law principles, project management and economic and financial analysis techniques.
+ Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and communication skills essential.
+ An understanding of Company power system operations, organization and resource planning functions as well as knowledge of commodity trading, trading tools, and wholesale market indices preferred.
Major Accountabilities
1) Develops and implements strategies for conventional, renewable and energy storage solicitation & procurement to achieve long term power supply objectives of the company.
2) Negotiates under direction of Resource Acquisition management with outside counterparties for purchase power agreements (PPA), energy supply agreements, equity ownership agreements, demand response programs or other power procurement related contracts
3) Coordinates with internal stakeholders such as Marketing and Trading, Resource Planning, Generation, Regulatory, Legal, Credit and Accounting to obtain input and functional requirements to ensure that both solicitations and negotiations are effective
4) Participates in standard and non-standard negotiations, contract dispute and issue resolution
5) Manages and mitigates Company exposure to liabilities through proper planning of solicitations gained through diligent market intelligence from the wholesale market as well as consideration of sensitivities in planning scenarios.
6) Develops and implements solutions to resolve contractual issues and problems with counterparties, internal and external customers, and staff
7) Monitoring and reports contract status, contract milestone achievement, and performance results
8) Develops effective recommendations to improve contract performance, contract management, and the contracting and negotiation process.
