Power Plant Operator
Shift: Rotating shifts (7 days of 12-hour days, followed by 7 days off, then 7 days of 12-hour nights, followed by 7 days off) Wage: $35.15/hr (8 hours of overtime are built into the schedule) Job Description: We are looking for a skilled Boiler Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold a Minnesota 2nd or 1st Class A Boiler Operator license and will be responsible for operating and maintaining essential equipment within our facility, including air compressors, turbines, generators, motors, and steam boilers. Minimum Requirements: Minnesota 2nd or 1st Class A Boiler Operator license. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to understand and follow written or oral instructions. Ability to write routine reports and document information in logs. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with logistics, operations, boilers, and/or turbine generator operating systems. Biomass power plant experience. Responsibilities Include: Operate and maintain air compressors, turbines, generators, motors, and steam boilers. Read meters, gauges, or automated recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Record data such as equipment temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, temperature or pressure, water levels, flue gas analysis, voltage load, and generator balance. Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended operating ranges, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment if necessary. Visually inspect equipment at regular intervals to detect malfunctions, repair needs, or require adjustments or lubrication. Monitor and record renewable fuel inventories and fuel deliveries. Record and verify proper fuel material mixtures, including moisture content, and make recommendations for optimized fuel usage. Perform water titration tests and add chemical additives to treatment tanks to prevent scale buildup and clean boiler lines. Record operations and maintenance actions taken during the shift in the operator’s log. Communicate concerns, issues, and actions taken to supervisors and the incoming shift. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Perform other duties as assigned.
