The Opportunity 

Abt Global seeks a temporary Power Sector Modeler Analyst/Senior Analyst to be part of our efforts to help the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency improve its eGRID database while supporting the transition to green power in the United States under the Low Emissions Electricity Program. Candidates will implement analytical methods, support/lead power sector modeling, assist with analytic task management by overseeing project staff, and engage with clients. 

Candidates will be available to work remotely or from one of our offices in Rockville, MD, Cambridge, MA, Durham NC, or Atlanta GA to meet and work with colleagues in person. Core Responsibilities 

The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the U.S. power sector including the regulatory environment, balancing authority interchanges, and dispatch modeling. They will: 

Play a supporting role in developing power sector models to better understand consumption-based emissions rates  Support development of residual mix emission rates  Code, collect, clean, and manage quantitative data and perform statistical analysis, modeling, simulation, or simple forecasting using standard statistical packages  Assist in conducting uncertainty analyses  Support the preparation of reports, memos, papers, presentations, and other materials for use by senior environmental managers  Provide analytic task support, including implementing project timelines and coordinating the appropriate staff to meet scheduled milestones for a task (e.g., report development)  Communicate modeling methods and results to clients and a variety of stakeholders, including scientific experts, regulators, and the public. 

What We Value 

Analyst: Bachelors + 3, or Masters + 0 Senior Analyst: Bachelors + 5, Masters + 3, or PhD + 0 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience; electrical engineering degree or similar preferred  Experience with developing/optimizing dispatch models  Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills are essential  An outstanding academic record and experience with the power sector  Ability to work in team settings by communicating clearly, coordinating analytics staff, meeting deadlines, and exercising initiative to resolve complex challenges. Candidate must also be able to work independently, completing complex tasks under indirect supervision where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making.   Programming language skills such as Python/R/STATA/SAS preferred  Experience with climate change and power sector greenhouse gas emissions  Familiarity with Energy Information Administration datasets and forms

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $56,000 to $100,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
