Powerhouse Engineer

REQUIREMENTS:

A 3rd class stationary license. 3 - 5 years of experience working with an 80 pound an hour water tube boiler. Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. Experience maintaining an 80 pound an hour water tube boiler 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Operate, tend, repair and maintain all boiler house and compressor house equipment used to generate and meter steam and compressed air.  Install, operate, inspect, repair, maintain, test and adjust air conditioning, refrigerating, heating and ventilating equipment and controls.      Must hold a Universal Refrigeration certificate and a State issued 3rd class stationary engineer operator certificate. 

DUTIES AND WORKING PROCEDURES:

Manipulate controls to maintain proper operation of all boiler house and compressor house equipment regulating the supply of fuel, water, air, etc. Read, record, repair and calibrate steam, air, water, and gas meters, pressure reducing valves, etc. Repair and maintain condensate system, and all boiler house compressor house equipment. Treat, clean, and repair water-recirculating systems. Test and adjust boiler water for alkalinity, solids concentration, etc. Maintain powerhouse logs such as boiler room reports and chemical charge report. Check salt and chemical deliveries for quantity and quality. Prepare boilers and unfired pressure vessels for annual state inspection. Monitor CO levels in air supplied to plant. Adjust, calibrate, install, replace and repair controls to maintain proper operation of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilating equipment. Work from equipment diagrams and system blueprints. Set up and perform tests as necessary. Establish and maintain equipment records.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand and power tools such as chipping hammers, impact wrenches, drills, grinders, gauges, recorders, grounding devices, meters, testing equipment, drawings, air compressors and gas and oil-fired steam generating boilers, dealkalizers, automated water softening system, automated chemical feed systems, liquid brine system boiler, Nebraska gas/oil fired water tube/superheated boilers – with economizer, burner management systems and combustion control equipment, electronic level and pressure controls throughout Boiler House, variable speed booster pumps, mud drum heaters, computers for data entry, CO monitoring equipment, intermediate pressure controls, closed loop cooling system for compressors. Refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and controls, heating and ventilating equipment and controls, crane cab and other air conditioners, water coolers, ice machines, hand tools and power tools such as drills, grinders, etc., gauges, recorders and testing equipment, typical refrigeration repair tools, CFC recovery equipment.
