Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our Powertrain and Electronics team in San Carlos, CA to support development of the Joby S4 Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicle. This individual will be responsible for designing hardware for various systems that power and control the aircraft. This position requires a relentless drive for engineering excellence and the ability to balance complex competing objectives and priorities. The position will work cross-functionally and be responsible for the entire development cycle from early architecture through production.
Responsibilities Design components, subassemblies, and systemsPerform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisionsPlan/execute development tests to support design decisionsWork with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardwareWork with the testing team to support verification testing of hardware Required B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering3+ years of demonstrated engineering experience - preferably “full-stack” with exposure to test, design, equipment/component selection, hands-on builds, bring-up and troubleshootingProficiency with professional 3D modeling software, preferably with Catia 3D Experience Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysisExcellent problem solving and communication skillsStrong analytical background – able to use first principles to drive/inform design Desired M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline3+ years of working experience in automotive or aerospace industryExperience with Dassault Systemes CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly DesignExperience with finite element tools (Abaqus) EEOCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,200 - $130,900/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
