Practice Assistant
Description Our client, a well-regarded mid-size law firm, is seeking a Practice Assistant to join their Litigation Department and support one of the firm’s named partners in managing their litigation practice. In this role, you will oversee key litigation processes, including document collection, preservation, review, and production, while also maintaining organized case filing systems. Responsibilities will also include preparing briefs and other lengthy, indexed documents, coordinating with litigation teams on specific assignments, scheduling, drafting correspondence, preparing trial documents, and e-filing documents as needed. This role requires regular interaction with attorneys, court personnel, and staff from opposing law firms. Technical Skills Proficiency in a variety of computer software is essential, including the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, and ideally file management software like iManage Cloud. Experience with tools like Practice Assistant, Litera Compare, Adobe, and internet research tools is highly desirable. Advanced legal word processing skills are critical, including styling documents, creating tables of authorities/contents, and hyperlinking. Experience with Pacer for accurate and timely court filings is required, as are excellent proofreading abilities. A willingness to learn new software and systems is important, as well as being (or becoming) a notary with e-notarizing capabilities. Experience Requirements Familiarity with the litigation process and basic terminology is required, along with strong technical organizational abilities. Initiative in learning new tools and adopting new technologies to improve team workflows is highly valued. Education Requirements Candidates should have completed at least two years of college coursework or have equivalent work experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, are essential. Preferred Qualities This role requires a professional with strong interpersonal skills, well-suited to a fast-paced and collaborative litigation team environment. Success in this role will come from being organized, detail-oriented, proactive in problem-solving, and capable of supporting multiple attorneys on concurrent projects to meet deadlines.
