Position Information Posting Number 20112987 Position Title Pre-Award Specialist FTE 1.00 Position Type Staff Department Sponsored Program Administration Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function About This Role: The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Administration at Lamar University is pleased to invite applications for the position of Pre-Award Specialist. The pre-award office interfaces with researchers at Lamar University in identifying external funding opportunities, assembling proposal components for successful submissions to federal/state/private funding agencies and preparation for acceptance of research awards. The successful candidate is expected to provide professional guidance and support to faculty in a busy, fast-paced academic environment seeking external funding through research and service grants, cooperative agreements, sub awards, and contracts. The position serves as a source of expertise for federal, state, industry, and private foundation applications, and ensures that (1) grant submissions follow sponsor guidelines, (2) proposal budgets comply with sponsor requirements, and (3) required sections of applications are complete and submitted in a timely manner. Strong analytical, finance skills and attention to detail are required. What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities: + Work with the principal investigators at Lamar University to prepare grant and subcontracts submissions to external sponsors. + Develop proposal budgets, assemble, review, and submit applications, and prepare Letters of Intent for grants and subcontracts. + Serve as liaison between the research community and external sponsors. + Exercise judgment and initiative and to interact with faculty, personnel, and external agencies in a professional manner. + Assures project compliance through a thorough understanding of the principles and practices of grant management in accordance with federal grant rules and guidelines. + Review, verify and certify grant applications and associated budgets, on behalf of department leadership. + Provides administrative assistance, financial oversight and guidance related to sponsored research. + Ensures the departments and colleges follow the Time and Effort Policy and reporting. + Attend and participate in group and project meetings. + Support the other staff members in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs on work relevant to research and grants administration. Physical Requirements: With or without accommodation. Will require an individual to perform office duty for 40 hours per week. Will frequently be required to perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, speak clearly have adequate listening comprehension.
