Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Preclinical Laboratory Researcher-Statistician to engage in comprehensive preclinical laboratory research. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of original scientific research, including assessing behavior, pathophysiology, molecular mechanisms, and laboratory maintenance. This role requires effective integration of existing scientific literature, application of appropriate research methods, data collection, data management, and statistical data analysis. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Develop Research Proposals: Align research proposals with the military medical mission of BINT. Prepare written animal use and/or human subjects protocols for funded projects. Navigate the WRAIR Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Human Use Review Committee (HURC) to obtain protocol approvals. Draft original research protocols and address committee concerns during reviews. Conduct Literature Reviews: Perform literature reviews and develop summary reports of existing scientific literature. Routinely review scientific literature relevant to ongoing research in blast TBI and polytrauma. Coordinate Research Projects: Design and coordinate experiments. Direct research staff and collaborators in experiment execution. Provide insights into experimental objectives and techniques. Provide Subject Matter Expertise: Offer guidance in traumatic brain injury and polytrauma research. Develop new technical methods for neuroscience, injury, and blast research. Assess Physiological and Neurosensory Function: Apply animal handling, aseptic procedures, and routine care for assessments. Perform routine and specialized surgical procedures with animal subjects. Evaluate Neuroprotective Pharmacological Therapies: Use behavioral, physiological, histopathological, and neurochemical outcome measures. Conduct tests such as electroretinography, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), and more. Perform Quantitative Analytical Assessments: Analyze changes in molecular and cellular mediators using various techniques. Utilize methods such as immunohistochemistry, proteomics, and quantitative PCR. Prepare Tissue for Light Microscopy: Assess histopathological features of injuries to lung, brain, and neurosensory systems. Use software applications and data organization tools for analysis. Perform Laboratory-Based Actions: Conduct actions associated with radiofrequency engineering and related equipment. Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in experimental design and coordination. Strong background in statistical data analysis. Expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to navigate regulatory committees and obtain protocol approvals. Minimum Qualifications: D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. Extensive training in preclinical laboratory research, animal handling, and statistical data analysis. Minimum of 5 years of experience in preclinical research, with a focus on traumatic brain injury and polytrauma. US Citizen - Must be able to obtain and maintain up to a Secret Clearance.
