Press and Editorial Assistant (Hybrid)
Location: Washington, Washington, D.C.Job Type: ContractCompensation Range: $28 - 30 per hourA non-profit organization dedicated to voting rights is looking for a Press and Editorial Assistant to join their team on a 6-month hybrid contract in Washington, D.C. This position is ideal for someone passionate about voting rights and skilled in media relations and content creation.As the Press and Editorial Assistant, you will support the national Press Secretary by drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, and various press materials. You'll work closely with executive staff to prepare speeches, talking points, and presentations for public events, while also managing press lists, responding to media requests, and tracking media coverage. This role requires a proactive communicator who can stay current with the news cycle and assist in shaping the organization's media presence, particularly during high-demand election cycles.Responsibilities: Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other press materials on the client's website and in Cision in partnership with the national Press Secretary. Assist in the development of speeches, talking points, presentations, and other events for executive staff. Build and maintain press lists in Cision, track and elevate media requests. Work with Press Secretary to pitch regular story ideas with journalists, bloggers and media professionals. Monitor the news cycle, assisting with speech and talking point development, and providing writing and editing support. Respond to media and interview requests. Monitor media coverage and prepare daily news clips in Cision. Collaborate with Comms team and other internal teams to drafts press statements and coordinated responses to Leagues. Track voting rights and election news and respond when appropriate. Lives in the DC area and can staff principals and executive team at events and press interviews when needed. Willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends during the Election cycle and peak or rapid. Qualifications: 2-3 years of experience in media relations/pitching, agency work, knowledge of politics/relevant issues, media monitoring tools, website experience, Drupal, preferred. A spirit of collaboration is a must as well as knowledge, and passion for voting rights and women's issues is required. Writing/editing skills and the ability to follow a organizational or media style guides are required. The person in this position will work an adjusted schedule throughout the election cycle including nights and weekends. Experience with media monitoring software, such as Cision, would be beneficial but not a strict requirement. A passion for democracy and voting rights issues is highly valued.
