What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: This role provides process technical expertise on relief design to ensure that our facilities are in compliance with relief design standards and codes. This role requires experience in relief design and good overall knowledge of documentation requirements. This role also assists with planning and implementation of relief design work requests with our approved engineering in Freeport, TX.
The Relief Design Engineer supports the Freeport sites by bringing special process safety engineering expertise for design of overpressure protection systems. This person will be responsible for promoting consistency, accuracy and record retention for relief valve specification and sizing. They will work with the Plant and Technology Center to complete thorough Scenario Analysis evaluations. This person will have the expertise of our processes, chemistry, and materials of construction that are required for a properly designed relief valve.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Capable of performing Scenario Analysis’ for Relief Design.
Ensure consistent Relief Design work process is followed.
Gather information in the field/plant library that is required to complete Relief Design calculations/documentation.
Check for documentation completeness, compliance with standards and codes, explanation of assumptions, and documentation is thorough and clearly worded.
Provide missing data for documentation forms.
Audit the installed system to assure adherence to the design.
Compliance with guidelines and practices.
Help enforce consistency.
Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
Experience: Requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in Process Engineering - Relief Design required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of API 521, API-2000, and API-520 are required.
Experience in PRDM (Pressure Relief Design Manual) is highly preferred.
Demonstrated use of spreadsheet and Microsoft Office systems; SAP experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with personnel, customers and external contractors.
Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
