Position Summary:
Responsible for providing prevention and education services in a variety of settings. May develop and implement prevention services over a varied group of topics including substance abuse, mental health, bullying, suicide and other areas as requested. Responsible for training all staff in prevention and education services and appropriate use of the service.
Position Description:
Provide screenings, targeted education, skill building and support for students who are caught vaping/nicotine or THC or who self-refer using the Alternatives Program to school districts in Clinton and Warren CountiesRefer students needing additional support to quit vaping to Alternatives Tier 4 (cessation treatment); refer students with other substance use or mental health issues for diagnostic assessments as necessaryAssist district personnel to recognize nicotine addiction as a health problem requiring treatment and develop discipline policies that keep students connected to school and engaged in academics and extracurricular activities Provide universal prevention education services about the effects of vaping on health and nicotine as an addictive psycho-active to students and adults in Clinton and/or Warren County school districtsIdentify needs of the population served and utilize supportive educational methods that are age/developmentally appropriate to the population and topicCollaborate with members of the Prevention Team and Tier 4 providersCollect, track, and evaluate program data for fidelity and service qualityComplete service documentation accurately and timely in the electronic health record Assist with community prevention projects and activities at community events & information dissemination tables; provide trainings for faculty and/or community membersRemain current on Prevention and Education standards and ensure the program provides services in accordance with those standards Identify and assess needs of customers/clientsUtilize supportive educational methods that are appropriate to customer and topicComplete service documentation accurately and timely in electronic health record Provide both prevention and education servicesFacilitate referral to and/or provide appropriate level of careDevelop, define and implement realistic, effective and measurable goals and plans for servicesCollect, track and evaluate program data for fidelity and service qualityRecruit community groups, schools and others for prevention servicesAdhere to professional standards as outlined by protocols, rules and regulationsDrive for job duties as assignedOther duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders is important; experience with tobacco/vaping intervention programs a plusKnowledge of behavioral health topics and prevention strategiesSkill in applying prevention strategies and education techniques/skill building interventionsExcellent organizational and time management skillsEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to collaborate/interact with wide variety of peopleDemonstrate professional dress, speech and behavior (code of ethics)Job Requirements:
Minimum of Associate’s Degree; Bachelors degree in public health, health education, community health, social services preferred Must have or be willing to obtain a Prevention credential (RA, OCPSA/OCPS) within 12 months of hire; CHES & CDCA are acceptable Must pass required background checks Must have current driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insuranceEssential Functions/Physical Demands:
