Prevention Services Coordinator
Statement of Duties The Prevention Services Coordinator will support the Director of Prevention Services in a variety of prevention focused initiatives. The Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating regional planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation phases of activities related to prevention services initiatives. Such initiatives include the MassCALL3 Bureau of Substance Addiction Services grant and the City of Somerville Student Health Survey. The Coordinator will serve as a resource for best practices, trends, and data analysis related to prevention strategies and policies for the division. Essential Functions + Oversees, coordinates, and implements all substance misuse prevention grant initiatives related to the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) MassCALL3 grant. + Build, maintain, and support strategic partnerships in the Somerville, Everett, Arlington, and Lexington communities to lead a coordinated team-based approach to substance misuse prevention efforts working with youth, caregivers, school faculty members, health directors, mental health professionals, youth-serving organizations, and city/town representatives. + Responsible for managing grant budgeting and invoicing as well as reporting, deliverables, and subcontractor relationships (including cluster representatives and evaluation services). + Oversee needs assessments (such as focus groups, key stakeholder interviews, pre-/post-tests and surveys) and review community data as needed to inform programming. + Develop and carry out strategic plans to inform and direct substance misuse prevention work. + Develop and implement program evaluation tools in conjunction with external and BSAS evaluators, informed by the Student Health Survey and other quantitative as well as qualitative data sources. + Coordinate and lead cluster meetings with representatives from all four communities as well as BSAS and technical assistance staff. + Ensure training and implementation of identified interventions are completed. + Maintain ongoing communication with BSAS Contract Manager at the Department of Public Health (DPH) regarding program activities and requirements. + Attend all BSAS grant-related meetings. + Build partnerships with substance misuse prevention coalitions in other communities. + In conjunction with Somerville Public Schools and external vendors, oversee the administration and evaluation of the middle and high school Student Health Survey, including in-depth analysis during non-administration years. + Informs dissemination strategies for the public on awareness, events, exhibits, and presentations with supervisor and/or Health Communications Officer. + Develop methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize data to provide usable information to develop strategies and policies. + Collaborate with and support Community Health Worker division, particularly the Harm Reduction Community Health Worker in addressing SDoH for vulnerable populations. + Promote person-centered, strengths-based, & resilience-building by encouraging ongoing participation of youth cohorts in shared policy-level decision-making. + Participate in ongoing multidisciplinary meetings related to prevention initiatives. + Establish and maintain strong community partnerships with various organizations and groups within the City of Somerville. This will include, but is not limited to, maintaining an up-to-date list of resources for individuals and caregivers. + Other similar or related duties as assigned. Recommended Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or human services and three to five (3-5) years.’ experience working with persons with SUD, harm reduction, and recovery, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must have grant management experience, BSAS grant management experience a plus Special Requirements: Valid MA driver’s license Knowledge, Abilities and Skill Knowledge: Knowledge of federal, state, and local public health regulations; working knowledge of public health issues and prevention programs, specifically experience in harm reduction strategies and substance misuse. Abilities: Ability to work independently; ability to evaluate and monitor community and environmental health projects. Bi-lingual or multilingual ability in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian-Creole is preferred. Must be able to travel to multiple locations. Skill: Excellent organizational skills; excellent data processing skill in the use of office software including word processing, data base and spreadsheet applications; excellent public speaking skills, planning and organization Work Environment The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments. Travel to other communities as a regular part of the position. Visual Skills Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
