PREVENTION SPECIALISTYouth Community Services
Springfield / Greene County, Missouri
Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 10am-7pm

As a Prevention Specialist, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing prevention services for the Burrell Youth Community Services team and other private and public entities. Your primary responsibility will be to educate adolescents and adults on substance abuse and mental health through training sessions and group psychoeducation. You will also assist community groups in identifying and addressing issues related to substance abuse and mental health, and develop appropriate prevention education and activities to promote healthy behaviors.
***Key Responsibilities***
Prepare and conduct engaging training sessions and group psychoeducation for children, adolescents, and adults on topics such as drug and alcohol abuse, interpersonal skills, and mental health literacy.Collaborate with community groups to identify and address substance abuse and mental health issues, and develop effective prevention strategies.Research, compile, and edit innovative lesson plans, course outlines, and training materials to enhance substance abuse and mental health education.Maintain an extensive library of references, audio-visual aids, and educational resources to support drug, alcohol, and mental health programs.Recommend improvements to existing curricula and develop new training packages to stay current with emerging trends.Assist community groups in creating age-appropriate prevention activities and special projects to promote education, prevention, and awareness.Accurately document all program activities according to agency quality standards.We're looking for someone with:
A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, nursing, counseling, or a closely related human services field. (If your degree is in a different field, we require four years of relevant experience in mental health/substance abuse.)OR a High School diploma, GED, and four years of related experience working with individuals struggling with substance abuse.Substance use certification is preferred.Don't miss this opportunity to make a real difference in your community!
