AWS is looking for an exceptional Workforce Planning practitioner with strategic expertise and a strong delivery record in building trust in partnership with the business and partnership with fellow strategists to advance adoption and effective use of Workforce Planning. Moreover, this practitioner will work in partnership with the core WFP team that requires thought leadership to advance WFP content across AWS. This individual has proficiency in employing workforce and human behavior insights, strong business operations fundamentals and good judgement. This individual will also provide thought leadership against future modelling capabilities and programs that enable the acceleration of revenue growth, improved operational efficiencies & delivery. Ultimately, the individual will be responsible for a sub-business level workforce plan of optimized size and level in service of predictably accelerating product innovation, and enhancing the customer experience.
In this role, you will be responsible for using operational and human capital data and leveraging tools and expertise to map enterprise strategies into actionable delivery plans. You will influence data driven business decisions that results in quantifiable outcomes, understanding complex business relationships, and developing a quantitative return on investment

• Work directly with senior leaders in the business, partnering with Finance, HR and leadership to create one-year and three-year workforce plans in cadence with AWS’ operational cycles
• Earns trust with internal stakeholders and customers, and develops collaborative solutions that create measurable economic impact on AWS
• Leverage deep knowledge of workforce planning methodologies, data sources, and practices. Applies this technical knowledge to invent, evolve, improve, and simplify.
• Drive large-scale workforce planning efforts that solve significantly complex or endemic problems.
• Consistently bring strong, data-driven business and technical judgment to decisions.
• Recognize when designs/solutions require additional technical guidance (e.g., from senior practitioners or subject matter experts).
• Advocate for and guide workforce programs. Influence teams to dedicate resources, and lead the effort (or finds appropriate owner).
• Capture the right metrics to influence stakeholders and measure success.
• Occasional travel to internal meetings and fact-finding sessions
A day in the life
As a Principal Workforce Strategist within AWS, you will partner with the business and set the vision and direction for a high quality, quantified, and actionable workforce plan. You will play a key role on the Workforce Planning Engagement sub-team team that influences the long-range plans of the business and the technical agenda that supports it. You will influence senior leaders globally on strategic decisions impacting AWS’ future. This role works closely with cross functional teams including HR, Finance, Strategy, and Operations.
The ideal Principal Workforce Strategist has a strong sense of ownership, is self-driven, loves breaking new ground. You will bring a mix of experience including complex global program management, senior stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, strategic planning, operational planning, and process improvement. Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of domain experience including experience leading a workforce planning team that works across partner sub teams. Familiarity solving problems/efforts with visible and not-yet-visible risks, roadblocks, constraints, including many that conflict with each other. Master's degree in statistics, engineering, I/O psychology, mathematics, economics, or MBA.
Preferred Qualifications
- • Master's degree in statistics, engineering, I/O psychology, mathematics or economics
- • Advance Degree (MS/MBA) in the field of organizational behavior, human resources, operations or strategy
- • Strong commitment to exceptional customer experience, enthusiasm for driving positive change, and ability to persuade senior leaders.
- • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (e.g. the ability to present detailed technical analysis, assumptions, and recommendations succinctly to senior business leaders).
- • Application of data mining/machine learning algorithms
- • A record of customer advocacy and influence without authority is important for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
