Department Summary:

The Health and Society Innovation Center's Health Behavioral and Social Sciences Department is seeking a Health Social Innovation Research and Analysis, Principal. This hybrid position is based in McLean, Baltimore, or Bedford. The Health Behavioral and Social Sciences Department focuses on advancing research and innovation in health-related behavioral and social sciences. It aims to improve health outcomes by understanding and influencing human behavior and social factors. The department collaborates with experts in various fields to develop strategies and solutions that address health communication, health equity, and social determinants of health. It leverages advanced technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to support health initiatives and contribute to federally funded research and development programs.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Health Social Innovation Research and Analysis Lead will spearhead innovative project and research initiatives to advance health social innovation. This role requires a visionary leader to drive technical thought leadership, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and manage complex projects to enhance health literacy, information resilience, and infodemic management. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead transformative research and innovation efforts that address critical health challenges and enhance societal well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Capability Leadership:

Lead and inspire technical thought leadership in social innovation for sponsors.Innovate in areas such as information resilience, infodemic management, and health literacy.Mentor and guide staff, including experts in health communication science, health economics, health equity, and health behavioral and social sciences.

Research Leadership:

Develop and lead pioneering research initiatives focused on audience and social influence, and information resilience.Leverage advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and generative AI, to enhance MITRE's research capabilities.

Cross-Discipline Collaboration:

Collaborate with data scientists, geospatial analysts, AI experts, and other specialists to strengthen information resilience and audience influence capabilities.Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovative solutions across disciplines.

Project Management:

Serve as Project Lead or Task Lead, overseeing project resource allocations, and team management.Ensure successful project delivery through effective planning, execution, and stakeholder engagement.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 7 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 4 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Able to obtain a Suitability ClearanceDemonstrated ability to design, conduct, analyze and lead both qualitative and quantitative research.Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and mentor staffExcellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to collaborate, network and negotiate across matrixed teams, departments, and divisions.Experience solving complex health challenges using health social and behavioral sciences.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of relevant experienceExperience solving complex health challenges using health behavioral and social sciences working with the federal government (e.g., Health and Human Services Operating Divisions, CDC, State Department. U.S. Aid) and international health organizations (e.g., World Health Organization)Demonstrated ability and expertise in working with international organizations on health communication related issuesDemonstrated experience in audience research and analysis to include online and social media discourse for themes, topics, sentiment, social influence and amplification of inaccurate informationDemonstrated experience in providing high level briefings and reportsDemonstrated experience working with international teams on projects related to health, information resilience, (e.g., health, information or digital literacy), mis/disinformation, influence and other related areasDemonstrated experience working on health communication and public health challenges at the local and community level, both domestically and internationallyDemonstrated experience in working with online media analysis software that includes the detection of mis/disinformationDemonstrated experience in program evaluationDemonstrated technical leadership and experience applying health behavioral and social sciences techniques, to include health communication science, social sciences, public health, and audience and information analysis.Solid understanding of the healthcare industry, including government and private healthcare organizations; public health, and the information ecosystem/resilience.Passion for emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI) and solving real-world health mission problems.
