Key Responsibilities:United Airlines is in partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite connectivity to bring the world’s fastest, most reliable connectivity to the aircraft fleet. This brings groundbreaking in-flight entertainment experiences like streaming services, shopping, gaming and more.
Principal Architect for On-Board Connectivity and Entertainment will be responsible for design and strategy to support the on-board platform including Connectivity and Entertainment. The role will lead on the design, Implementation, Deployment, and maintenance. Work with other architects across the organization and different vendors in conjunction with United Digital technology Engineering, Cabin Systems Engineering and Security to architect and establish a progressive onboard ecosystem. The role will provide industry-leading thought leadership and facilitate development of strategies across domains.
Collaborate with domain architects, engineers, and leaders to develop technical standards, reference architectures, design patterns, opinion papers, and architecture decision frameworks that guide the design of technology solutions.Develop and manage a technical strategy and coordinates adoption.Manage the architecture review process by creating validation checklists, reviewing architectural artifacts, and providing domain specific guidance to drive architectural alignment across the enterprise. Apply architectural and engineering concepts to design solutions that meet operational requirements, such as scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability, and manageability.Conduct research and develop Proof of Concepts on emerging technologies and implementation toolkits in support of anticipated development efforts and recommend technologies that functionally robust and cost effective. Research, enforce, and drive the adoption of design patterns throughout the enterprise and evangelizes standard processes for solution design and development.Leading system integrations, ensuring seamless connectivity and in-flight entertainment (IFE) experiences across various vendors and fleet configurations.Leading all aspects of the entire lifecycle of on-board Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), from requirements gathering and vendor evaluation to implementation, with a focus on hosting and edge caching solutions.Maintaining accountability for the management of certificates, including issuance and updates, both on-board and in coordination with external vendors.Collaborating closely with internal and external partners to secure Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for new on-board system configurations.Providing design and support of Over the Air Updates (OTA) for United config/software updates to the aircraft.Providing technical support for the configuration and setup of captive portals.Offering ongoing support for the Personal Device Entertainment (PDE) platform and associated streaming services, ensuring a high-quality passenger experience.United values diverse experiences, perspectives, and we encourage everyone who meets the minimum qualifications to apply.
