Job Summary:
UKG is seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Architect to join our Data Platform team. This leadership role requires a self-motivated individual with a deep understanding of data extraction patterns and a passion for designing highly scalable solutions that meet our customers' business needs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record architecting and implementing cloud solutions that support large-scale data operations. They will also have a collaborative attitude, and a strong desire to strive for development standards and efficiencies. The candidate must be able to collaborate with others and successfully leverage their team to deliver on a multitude of project initiatives. Additionally, great organizational and communication skills, a keen sense of process improvement, and a strong desire to solve business problems are essential in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design comprehensive, end-to-end architecture for data systems, including but not limited to component breakdown, data flow, data storage, data retrieval, communication protocols, security, deployment processes, observability and integration points for high-volume data storage and retrieval across disparate systems. Evaluate and choose appropriate programming languages, frameworks, databases, and other technologies based on project needs. Identify potential bottlenecks and design solutions to measure and optimize system performance and scalability. Design security measures to protect sensitive data and prevent vulnerabilities within the system. Partner with multiple stakeholders to understand requirements and translate those into technical designs. Document and communicate design decisions clearly to developers, provide technical guidance, and resolve technical challenges. Hold lead developers accountable for producing clearly documented designs and provide feedback to ensure design is well thought out. Conduct assessments on active development projects to ensure agreed upon design is being followed and course correct where necessary. Act as an escalation point from development team members regarding implementation issues that need assistance for resolution. Champion best practices in development, quality, and security while serving as a mentor and fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation. Stay abreast of new technologies and industry standards. Become proficient with our core products and support, educate and lead the group in such discussions.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
15+ years of data technology experience with proficiency in software engineering areas covering the following: Programming such as Java, Python, Kotlin Data streaming technologies such as Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub Database technologies such as BigQuery, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL DevOps tooling such as GitHub Actions, Prometheus, Terraform, Splunk 5+ years designing data storage and processing solutions on a cloud platform such as GCP, AWS, Azure Hands-on experience across the data lifecycle, from data ingestion to consumption and disposal Familiarity with Data Management and Business Intelligence tools such as Denodo, Cognos, Looker Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks (SOC, GDPR, CCPA) and their impacts on governance Expertise with data movement, ELT/ETL, data streaming and processing technologies such as Confluent Cloud, Apache Beam and GCP Dataflow Familiarity with enterprise observability tooling such as Datadog, Grafana, Splunk, OpenTelemetry

The pay range for this position is $135,200.00 to $204,200, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive and a long-term incentive as part of total compensation.
