What you'll do Docusign is looking for an amazing Principal Architect to join our development team in Seattle. This position will be part of a team working on an architectural shift that will allow us to scale to meet the next 10x of growth. We need a Principal Architect to lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategy for our search team which builds a unified and distributed search platform for Docusign CLM, eSign and IAM. This position will play a critical role in designing and evolving our search platform, ensuring high relevance, scalability and efficiency. The principal architect will be able to work with Engineering, Product Managers, and Applied Scientists to build and ship customer scenarios that are used by 100s of enterprises. This position will demand critical thinking skills, ability to quickly understand existing systems and the ability to work in agile, fast paced environments. The ability to take smart and educated risks is essential to the success of this position. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering. Responsibility Define and drive the technical strategy for search infrastructure, indexing, query processing and relevance ranking Architect and scale our search system to handle increasing data volume and query complexity efficiently Optimize discovery, retrieval and search relevance by leveraging advanced ranking models, semantic search, embeddings, and AI-driven approaches Ensure high availability and performance by designing robust, fault-tolerant search infrastructure Be open minded, forward thinking, and passionate about great software Work with Product Management and other developers to understand and translate engineering requirements into design requirements and provide estimates Stay ahead of industry trends in search technologies, including open source frameworks, AI advancements, and cloud based solutions Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation Job Designation Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation) Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. What you bring Basic Bachelors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Informatics or equivalent 15+ years development experience in building scaling search system Experience working with C#, .Net Core, SQL Database and Designing Large scale distributed systems Experience with microservice architecture Preferred 10+ years development experience in software engineering with a deep focus on search technologies Expertise in Lucene-based engines (e.g. ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Solr) or modern search platforms Strong understanding of ranking algorithms, retrieval models, and relevance tuning Experience with vector search, embeddings, and AI-powered search techniques Hands-on experience with Big data processing framework (e.g. Spark, Flink, Kafka) Experience shipping highly available, scalable service on Azure Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-moving environment Strong communication and leadership skills with a track record of driving techinical solutions Passion for working on a highly available site Passion to learn new software technologies Wage Transparency Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations: Washington, New Jersey and New York (including NYC metro area): $186,200.00 - $276,125.00 base salary This role is also eligible for the following: Bonus: Sales personnel are eligible for variable incentive pay dependent on their achievement of pre-established sales goals. Non-Sales roles are eligible for a company bonus plan, which is calculated as a percentage of eligible wages and dependent on company performance. Stock: This role is eligible to receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
