Principal Associate, Process Management, Country Risk Management
Center 2 (19050), United States of America, McLean, Virginia Principal Associate, Process Management, Country Risk Management Capital One is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Principal Associate to join the Country Risk team within the Operational Risk Management second line of defense. The Country Risk team is a dedicated group of risk professionals who are responsible for overseeing and effectively challenging Capital One’s international business activities, including our non-US products, services, offshore associates and contractors, and facilities to manage our international risk exposure. This role will support the Country Risk team as we enhance Capital One’s governance, framework, requirements, and expectations for the management of international business activities to support our growing international footprint. You’ll work directly with partners across the organization in a highly visible manner while developing enhanced program requirements and processes to oversee new and existing international functions. This role will be critical to help us design, build, and execute a process for ongoing reviews and assessments of international initiatives related to offshoring or outsourcing key functions across the enterprise. Additionally, you will help provide support executing project plans for key programs related to delivery in our journey to mature the Country Risk Program and international risk oversight as a whole. As part of the larger Operational Risk Management (ORM) organization, you will work with talented associates to transform how we work to ensure that our businesses effectively manage operational risk across the enterprise. This includes enabling our organization to maintain sustainable and efficient processes in order to deliver superior products while also protecting our customers. You’ll also bring your unique perspective and experiences to help us be rigorous, curious, and creative. Principal Associates have a natural passion for helping teams become more efficient, with an eye on ensuring processes help our customers reduce risk. You’ll do so through your excellent project, process and analytical skills. With these skills, Principal Associates will also challenge the status quo, seeking for more efficient and innovative ways to improve how we work to provide an outstanding customer experience. Specific responsibilities of the Country Risk Principal Associate, Process Management role include and are not limited to: + Developing a coherent destination strategic process structure and process designs + Ensuring all processes meet process management standards, including those for critical business processes, as well as partnering with Risk and Operations to update/create controls to address risks + Leveraging Business Process Management (BPM) tools like Process Maps and RACIs to define the current state of a process, ensure the process fulfills on key requirements, and mitigate risks as teams drive to deliver desired customer outcomes while using these same tools to define a brand new or proposed process + Day to day oversight of multiple processes: monitor, report, and plan process improvement or redesign initiatives; define, establish, and manage process controls; identify process improvement opportunities and implement them through collaboration with other groups such as the Risk office, BRO and management; make final recommendations for approval on changes. + Resolve complex problems or transactions, where expertise is required to interpret against policies, guidelines or processes; escalate breakdowns in the process by asking the right questions and identify or involve the right stakeholders to correct breakdowns. + Maintain formal process documents (e.g. procedures and diagrams), and document processes and projects (creating project reports, presentations, business cases, and diagrams) + Collaborate on larger initiatives, including representing departments on broader change control forums for input and to represent department interests; may challenge forum decisions if project outcome impacts department processes. May participate in cross-functional project teams, including projects driven by other parts of the organization, to provide input, liaise with training, and partner with groups on execution efforts. + Analyzes data and influences others to proactively identify risks and trends on an ongoing basis + Fosters a highly collaborative environment with other risk teams and various partner groups to create an integrated and seamless risk experience for the business (e.g., Compliance, Third Party Risk Management, Business Continuity, Technology Risk Management, etc.) + Demonstrates independent and adaptive problem-solving and analysis skills with attention to detail + Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization + Balances multiple priorities to help drive business value and support team objectives, while managing tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives to support the Country Risk team in a well-managed capacity + Is forward-leaning and stays current on the changing regulatory environment and geopolitical environment to understand the impacts to Capital One’s foreign business activities Basic Qualifications: + High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification + At least 3 years of financial institution Risk Management experience or at least 3 years of Process Management experience + At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients or serving as a consultant for external business clients Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelor's Degree + 2+ years of experience in Country Risk Management (compliance, legal, operational, or financial risk management) or oversight of foreign business operations + 2+ years of experience in third party management, in particular, offshoring and non-associate labor (contractor) oversight + 5+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional programs in Risk + Industry certifications in Risk Management At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
