The role
As a Principal Cost Controller, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Submarine Disposal Programme as the sole Principal Cost Controller within the Project Controls function. This role is to lead a team in establishment and measurement of cost baselines and their ongoing analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
By combining an inquisitive approach and analytical skills, you will provide relevant and insightful management information which will support project and programme management decisions.
You will be part of an ongoing transformation programme across our Project Management and Project Control’s function, driving world class project delivery performance whilst using recently implemented systems such as Systems Applications and Processes (SAP), and Deltek Cobra.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead a team in establishment and measurement of cost baselines and their ongoing analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
To lead an established team of Cost Controllers, providing subject matter advice and guidance to the team and supporting functions Driving continuous improvement within the business unit to improve programme and project outputs. Lead and assure the provision of weekly/monthly performance and cost reports with associated analysis/narrative. Validating projects estimate at completion and tracking return to green plans. Lead the management of the cost baselines across all related projects.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Principal Cost Controller
A driven and experienced cost control professional to provide subject matter advice to the cost control team and interfacing functions. Proven experience in the cost control/cost engineering discipline with a professional desire to continually improve processes and create efficiency whilst increasing benefit to Babcock and its customer. Experience of leading and managing teams through transformational change, including evidence of process development and implementation. Evidence of resilience with the ability to challenge historic ways of working and growing team competence through training and upskilling. Expert in the application of project controls specifically the underpinning requirements of Earned Value Management.
Qualifications for the Principal Cost Controller
Membership or formal qualification by a recognised professional body such as APM (PFQ/PMQ), Project Management Institute, or ACostE. This can include working towards these qualifications.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
