Principal Data Scientist

**Description**
SAIC is seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented, and hands on Data Scientist to support our CBP customer. **_This will be a remote position, but will require occasional attendance onsite at our Ashburn, VA or Kingstowne, Virginia offices._**
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Collect and analyze large data sets from complex data models including relational databases
+ Define acceptance criteria including setting algorithm thresholds based on statistical analysis
+ Develop and identify approaches for predictive models
+ Define and set standards for performing data analysis
+ Interface with clients, project management, stake holders, and development teams
+ Consolidate information into reports or UI dashboards
**Qualifications**
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Statistics, or related field
+ 3+ years of experience in data science techniques – including data analysis, statistical analysis, programming, modeling, machine learning, and deep learning
+ Strong programming skills including SQL, python, other related languages, and data mining tools
+ Strong background in math and statistics
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Typical education and experience:
+ Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years or more experience; Master's degree and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience
Desired Qualifications:
+ Knowledge working with Unix/Linux
+ Experience with C# or similar programming language
+ Advanced learning techniques - information retrieval, modeling, and entity resolution
+ Knowledge of a variety of data formats such as XML, JSON, and various image formats
+ Strong organization and time management skills
+ Experience working with DHS, Customs and Border Protection, or travel related data
+ Master’s Degree in a related field

+ US Citizenship Required
+ Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
+ Location – Telework with on-site visits if a mission need. Candidates must be within the GWA/commutable area
