Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Data Scientist on our team you will:
- Create simulations of our robotic workcells and automation systems with varying fidelity from mathematical modeling to simulation with software in the loop.
- Decompose novel system designs and iterate on alternatives to produce simulations of robotic and system designs.
- Apply your system engineering and science judgement to determine the most critical behaviors to model to drive design and engineering decisions.
- Apply simulation expertise to drive designs to produce the best product minimizing system complexity.
- Communicate transparently the experiments and analysis produced from system design models.
- Advance simulation technology to accelerate innovation and system design.
A day in the life
On any given day at Amazon Robotics, you will:
- Collaborate with experts spanning robotics, hardware, software, industrial design, system architecture and other domains.
- Inform understanding of simulation and experiment design.
- Adjudicate what system behaviors are most critical to model when.
- Use analysis results to drive system understanding and gain consensus around what is the best system design while reducing complexity.
- Use your skillset across simulation and design boundaries to continually surface data and evolve designs.
- Provide guidance and hands on expertise to improve tools and techniques used in simulation to accelerate innovation.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of non-internship professional data science and simulation experience in a system engineering domain.
- Masters degree in relevant discipline, engineering or science.
- Hands on experience designing and evaluating experiments, including a broad range of mathematical, discrete event and physical simulations.
- Hands on experience articulating model trade-offs and results analysis to business partners.
- Hands on experience with R, Python, Jupyter and other data science and simulation tools, languages and technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Domain knowledge and experience in system engineering.
