Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Designer (Lighting) to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for enhancing illumination for Yanbu Industrial City through complex visual and technical analysis. They produce Environmental Lighting Impact Assessments and work on diverse projects, including street lighting, parks, and interior spaces, ensuring energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetic appeal. The role involves collaboration with various Sections and UPD department, supporting design preparation, reviewing consultant designs, troubleshooting construction issues, and contributing to city lighting plans and sustainability objectives.

As a member of the Design Unit within the Engineering Projects Section (EPS) of the Engineering Department, this role supports various ED Sections. Reports to the EPS Section Manager for specific tasks and to the Engineering Manager for all other aspects. Provides specialized technical assistance to subordinates and peers, and interface with other engineering disciplines, including Electrical and Architectural, within the department. What You'll Be Doing:
Create lighting designs, schematics and layouts for interior and exterior spaces, considering factors like luminance, illuminance, color temperature and glare.
Perform calculations to determine lighting requirements, using software like AGi32, Dialux or Relux.
Reviews A/E contractor design drawings, specification, and calculations submittals and coordinates with the work of other disciplines.
Optimize lighting designs for energy efficiency, considering LED technology, daylight harvesting and smart controls.
Create/design layered lighting systems, incorporating ambient, task and accent lighting designs for various interior spaces (e.g., public buildings, health and educational facilities etc.).
Specify and program lighting control systems, including dimming, scene control and occupancy sensing.
Design exterior lighting systems for buildings, parking areas, Roadways, walkways and landscapes.
Create dramatic facade lighting designs, highlighting architectural features.
Design sustainable landscape lighting systems, emphasizing energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Specify lighting solutions for trails, ensuring safety and visibility.
Design lighting systems for public art installations.
Functions as a Visual Lighting Expert and as a technical expert in performing analysis in this specialized area.
Perform interior and exterior lighting analyses using CAD and lighting simulation software to ensure the Aesthetic and Code requirements are achieved.
Review lighting requirements and apply knowledge of safe, task-appropriate lighting design.
Conduct reviews on technical provisions of work and prepares special technical reports.
Provides input to engineering Project Section (EPS) in the Preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFP) documents with design concepts.
Prepares interface layouts and conflicts solutions.
Prepares technical correspondence, reports, and studies.
Review SOW for design RFPs &Task Order.
Preparation and review of cost estimates and material quantities.
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Illustrator, Sketch Up or similar design software.
Consulting with architects regarding design elements that may affect lighting requirements.
Creating lighting plots that include information such as instrument location and type of light source used.
Programming and operating lighting equipment, including moving lights on tracks or wheels and computerized lighting control systems (such as DALI), to produce desired effects.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor Degree in Interior / Exterior/ Urban Design with focus on lighting design is preferable together with a good working knowledge of Electrical Design.
Minimum 10 Years of directly related experience to the position specifically in conceptual design of Interior and exterior project work activities.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Accreditation with a recognize Authority/Institute on Lighting Design would be advantageous.
Extensive knowledge of design and calculations for lighting fixtures.
Excellent spoken and written English language skills with the ability to communicate effectively and Proven ability to perform project management role through knowledge of industry practices and regulation.
Candidate must be knowledgeable of current technology, standards and codes.
Ability to proficiently perform duties in accordance with the job description for the Principal Lighting Design Engineer
