Job Description:
Stantec is a leading global consultancy firm providing engineering design, program management, technology solutions and procurement support to infrastructure, water, wastewater, Buildings, Energy & Resources (E&R) and the environmental industrial sectors of North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific region.
Stantec is looking for Principal Substation Protection and Control Engineer. The main function of role is to provide technical subject expertise and develop team of P&C substation engineers and designers. Work closely with Stantec global offices and help deliver FEED, conceptual and detailed design up to construction level for substation refurbishment/extensions and new-build projects. The candidate will ideally have a wide knowledge of the transmission and distribution sector, having worked with several of the key T&D clients in the UK/NA.
The role also requires supporting Discipline Lead and Regional Business Lead by providing technical expertise to ensure that project outcomes in terms of profit, schedule, technical and quality standards, meet both the client and Stantec expectations.
Key accountabilities and Specific Experience:
• Experience in System Studies, Relay Protection and co-ordination
• Experience in Electrical Equipment sizing, Cable sizing.
• Experience in preparation of Bill of Material for Complete Substation with proper. Components / Equipment selection as per Customer Specification and Requirements.
• Should have In-depth knowledge and expertise in the following:
o Protection and control design related activities for AIS and GIS (132kV and above).
o Hands on Experience in Relay Selection and relay programming
o Busbar, Feeder, Transformer, Reactor, Circuit Breaker fail, DAR protections and SCADA interface is essential.
o CT/VT requirements and capable of preparing reports confirming adequacy of CT/VT for Protection application.
o Perform and review engineering calculations / studies (e.g., fault calculations, relay settings, voltage drop, cable sizing, CT/VT sizing) and prepare system protection requirements and design basis.
o Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
o Provide engineering support and solve queries during construction, testing and commissioning.
o Accountable to provide design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including Stantec’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
o Delivering under tight deadlines while achieving objectives with the ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.

Person Specifications:
• Bachelor/ master’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 20 + years of experience in Electrical Substation for Both AIS & GIS Stations, Renewable energy.
• Knowledge of International standards like ISA, BS, IEC, NEMA, CEC, IEEE/ANSI.
• Knowledge of 2D drafting software
• Have excellent data manipulation abilities (MS Excel/MS Access database type packages)
• Technical report & Equipment’s Specification writing skills as per Project Requirements.
• Self-starter, proactive, motivated person who can grab projects and work with the wider team to deliver. Coaching, training and mentoring the junior staff.
• Able to prioritize workloads whilst maintaining strong and trusting working relationships with Clients' and colleague's both locally and across the broader Stantec team.
• Competent level of baseline skills, i.e., professional, and confident with the essential, basic business and communication skills that are required for career growth in all positions.
• Rigorous attention to detail, able to understand and adopt workflows and commitment to personal professional development.
• Flexible attitude to accepting different work assignments and pro-active attitude to execution / delivery.
• Experience of overseas projects, and hands on experience of utility specific standards.
• Experience of physical substation design and awareness of various schemes.
• Experience in Co-ordination with Customer and Suppliers.
