Job Overview
The Principal Data Engineer mentors a team of data engineers who are responsible for analysis, architecture, design and development of data warehouse and business analytics solutions. The Principal Data Engineer informs the planning and roadmap for the Data Engineering team and owns the quality for the data pipelines the team builds.

Job Responsibilities:

Lead and contribute (hands-on) to the design, development, and implementation of scalable, cloud-based data solutions that support real-time and batch processing.Collaborate on analysis, architecture, design, and development of data warehouse and business analytics solutions. Ensure that all data solutions are scalable and maintainable for future growth, aligning with the company’s long-term vision.Architect and implement robust, efficient ETL/ELT frameworks, leveraging in-house tools to ensure data quality, governance, and compliance across all layers.Conduct and support white-boarding sessions, workshops, design sessions, and project meetings as needed, playing a key role in building relationships with other teams.Mentor other team members in their efforts to build data architect skillsets. Drive best practices for data pipeline development, data management, and cloud infrastructure.Assist team management to define projects, including helping estimate, plan, and scope work.Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to define the enterprise-level data strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and technical roadmaps.Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the data engineering practice, focusing on automation, optimization, and innovation.Data wrangling of heterogeneous data, exploration and discovery in pursuit of new business insights.  Evaluate and introduce new technologies and frameworks to stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring our systems are future-ready and competitive.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related subject area or equivalent experience (Required)Master's/Advanced Degree Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, or related technical field and/or MBA (Preferred)

Work Experience:

7-10 years Related experience (Required)5+ years developing cloud solutions using data services (Required)Minimum 3+ years of managing data engineering teams (Preferred)Experience designing and building self-service analytics and big data solutions using cloud technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Azure EventHub/Kafka, Azure Data Factory, Snowpipe, AWS Glue, etc) (Required)Leading/coaching senior engineers and/or managers (Required)Experience with the Software development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methods (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to manage global projects or programs including work prioritization, planning, and coordination (Required)Hands on experience in programming languages like Python and/or Scala (Required)Proficiency in Git or Terraform, with demonstrated experience in building and effectively utilizing CI/CD practices. (Preferred)Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams (Preferred)Ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders (Preferred)Passionate about learning new technologies (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications:

Cloud platform certification(s) (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, OR Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) (Required)

Base Pay Range: $125,600 - $226,600

Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
