The Role

As a Principal Engineer in the Decisions Alliance at HelloFresh, you will lead the design, architecture, and delivery of innovative solutions that empower our marketing organization to acquire new customers and engage existing ones. You will have the opportunity to shape one of the highest volume customer engagement systems in the industry with millions of customer touchpoints per day. Reporting directly to the VP of the Decisions Alliance, you will collaborate extensively across the tech organization, working closely with the engineering leadership community to define and execute a cohesive architectural vision. Your focus will be on building and scaling systems across various marketing technologies, including marketing measurement and attribution, marketing automation, experimentation, and automated bidding systems.

What You’ll Do Define and drive a cohesive technical vision across teams, ensuring alignment on architectural decisions and delivering unified, impactful marketing technology solutions. Lead complex engineering projects across multiple teams and locations, fostering cross-functional collaboration and seamless delivery. Partner with engineering leaders and senior stakeholders to align on vision, strategy, and execution plans, promoting a unified engineering leadership culture. Architect and standardize scalable, innovative marketing systems that balance regional strategies with global unification needs. Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, operational best practices, and continuous learning. Balance rapid feature delivery with long-term system health, addressing technical debt while optimizing productivity and effectiveness. What You’ll Bring 10+ years of backend development experience, designing scalable, distributed systems using modern languages like Java, C++, Golang, or Kotlin. Expertise in data systems, including SQL/NoSQL databases, data pipelines, modeling, and analytics, with familiarity in big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka. Proven track record of building marketing technologies, CRM systems, and adaptive systems in collaboration with data scientists and ML engineers. Strong ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences effectively. Experience leading development lifecycle processes and implementing engineering best practices for robust backend services. Deep understanding of marketing use cases, balancing technical and operational needs while fostering stakeholder trust and empathy. What we offer
