Our team is seeking a Principal Machine Learning (ML) Engineer passionate about architecting and building systems for coding, deploying, and maintaining large-scale machine learning models throughout their lifecycle. By combining software engineering principles and data science/machine learning knowledge, the ML Engineer develops the data processes that make ML models generally available in products for end-users and customers. The Principal ML Engineer should have a comprehensive understanding of both machine learning practices and data engineering practices. This role demonstrates a proficiency in various programming languages, including Python, SQL, and scalable computing such as Apache Spark. This position also requires an in-depth knowledge of the latest cloud computing technologies imperative for ML model development and deployment in this era. The chief contribution of the Principal ML Engineer is their ability to identify and implement new AI technologies that help define the long-term vision of data and AI within T-Mobile.

Responsibilities: 

Work with data science leaders to define and implement the vision of data and AI 

Architect next-generation data environments that effectively leverage data throughout the organization for the purpose of machine learning  

Mentor junior ML Engineering teams based on a scalable set of best practices 

Establish processes and standard methodologies to train and develop ML Engineering teams.

Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

7+ years validated experience in Data Engineering/Data Science building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets using SQL, Teradata, Oracle or similar 

7+ years demonstrated ability in Apache Spark and Databricks, coupled with Python/R, Java/Scala, and/or Go 

7+ years experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and find opportunities for improvement 

7+ years proven experience with real-world MLOps and knowledge of working in cloud-computing environment like Azure, AWS or Google Cloud and delivering high-quality ML models in production. 

Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases 

Proven understanding of ML concepts and techniques related to supervised and unsupervised learning 

Ability to analyze a business problem/situation/task and develop it in a constructive solution to help the business make informed decisions. 

Ability to orchestrate work across multiple projects, good social skills 

Proven experience related to various streams in telecommunications including but not limited to Marketing, Customer Experience, Finance or Strategy. 

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Machine Learning, or another quantitative field

Base Pay Range: $123,100 - $222,100

Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
