We are currently looking to recruit a Packaging Principal Engineer. Based in our office] in Shanghai and reporting to the Packaging Manager, APAC, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following.
The Packaging Principal Engineer is responsible for leading packaging technical development, validation and implementation for self-man and toll, contract manufacturing and for assessment supplier compliance for private brand products sourced in Asia.
The Packaging Principal Engineer provides technical guidance in the various areas of packaging to the department’s internal and external customers while assuring compliance to packaging quality and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Lead packaging technical development for medical segment self-manufacturing, toll manufacturing, contract manufactured and assessment of supplier compliance for private brand products. This includes packaging for new products, cost reduction projects and quality improvements on existing packaging.
Oversee and manage complete packaging development process for multiple packaging initiatives including new packaging designs, material conversions, packaging equipment and process.
Generate cost savings ideas, complete proof of concept development efforts, and deliver significant cost savings every year.
Provide packaging technical support and expert services to various manufacturing facilities and contract manufacturers. These services include troubleshooting, upgrade recommendations, process or package design optimization.
Ensure the high quality of documentation for change control and new product development established and maintained including protocols, TSRs and CDP documents.
Be responsible for packaging validations – IQ, OQ, PQ.
Participate in and support audits.
Interface with marketing, sales and sourcing to collect customer, market and technology intelligence.
Identify and assess candidate suppliers for adequacy of their process control, incoming inspection, finished good inspection and commitment to quality as well as technical expertise.
Master the packaging development technologies and achieve team technologies advancement.
Be proficient presenting projects to the cross-functional team and to management.
Mentor and coach the team members on both technical approaches and soft skills.
Prepare monthly projects’ progress reports per each project milestone.
Requirements
A degree in packaging or equivalent with an advanced degree strongly preferred.
At least 6 years of relevant work experience in Packaging Engineering for medical device manufacturing, pharmaceutical or related industry.
Good expertise in managing projects independently from multiple disciplines, multiple plants with a variety of objectives.
Strong technical skills in packaging problem analysis and solving.
Good understanding in ISO 11607 Parts 1 and 2 and medical packaging.
Good knowledge of packaging materials, TFFS technology, sealing processes, 1D/2D barcodes and GS1 compliance, labelling, distribution packaging, corrugated, folding carton and preformed sterile barrier systems.
Good knowledge of ISO, ASTM and ISTA standards.
Good understanding in statistics including DOE, sample sizes, T-tests and statistical process control. Knowledge of Lean and Six sigma methodologies, a plus.
Familiarity with design control, change control, FDA requirements and the medical device regulation.
Excellent communication skills, including fluency in both English and Chinese (verbal and written).
Good team player and good interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel in Asia (25-40%).
