This position is hybrid in nature at the manager’s discretion requiring 2-3 days/week on-site in Burr Ridge, IL located 40-minutes from downtown Chicago. Your Day-to-Day:
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead and mentor others in state-of-the-art calculations and support validation experiments with a focus on maintaining and improving safety within the nuclear industry. Other duties and responsibilities listed below and may be assigned on an as-needed basis by your manager.
Perform engineering calculations, and assessments related to nuclear safety including safe operation of nuclear power plants, waste treatment, and severe accident modeling. This will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat & mass transfer, radiological source term, and other duties as assigned by manager Lead and mentor less experienced employees in software development by developing and implementing mathematical models into a C++ code base, Fortran, python Prepare and or independently review appropriate documentation supporting evaluations and analyses Verify first of a kind evaluations and analyses performed by others, as qualified Plan and schedule own work to meet assignment requirements within schedule and budgetary requirements Develop skills necessary to assume more independent assignments and support the business strategic initiatives Ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks
