**The Role:**
We are seeking to hire a **Principal Engineer, Treatment Innovation** to lead a water and wastewater processes and treatment technical team based out of Lowell, Massachusetts. The team will work closely with the Sentec team based out of Cambridge in the UK and together provide technology innovation services across the whole of Xylem. This role will report through the Sentec leadership into the Xylem Innovation and Ventures Function.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be a recognized technical authority in treatment and process technologies, with experience across a broad range of applications. You will have demonstrated the ability to solve highly complex problems, generate patentable ideas and architect solutions employing a wide variety of skills and experience. Your broad experience will also enable you to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, based on a good understanding of the basic principles in other fields. You will coordinate with the Sentec team in Cambridge to conduct internal innovation projects on behalf of Xylem across all segments. You will contribute across the full innovation journey, from determining focus areas to ideation and development of ‘big bets’ through to commercialization.

The role requires you to build trusted relationships with senior policy makers across Xylem, contributing to high level technical and strategy meetings. You should be comfortable with complex decision making, having the ability to influence and guide innovation activities in the treatment arena.
You will also collaborate externally to Xylem with technology companies, Xylem customers, universities and other stakeholders. You should have a strong commercial acumen and be able to work with senior business leaders to define overall technology acquisition strategies to address business needs. Working closely with the wider Innovation and Ventures team and with Xylem’s legal and intellectual property experts you will establish valuable external partnerships.
**Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:**
+ Lead a water process and treatment technical team, providing inspiration, encouragement and motivation
+ Build the team capability to serve Xylem’s treatment innovation needs
+ Engage with internal Xylem colleagues on innovation strategy and priorities
+ Match product/service needs and technologies to identify solutions to meet business innovation needs
+ Scope prototyping and feasibility projects to evaluate technologies and processes
+ Oversee team project delivery
+ Align treatment team with Sentec processes and operating model
**Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:**
+ Excellent academic record (1st class or 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline)
+ PhD or equivalent qualification
+ 15+ years of industry experience
+ In depth knowledge of ultra-pure water, water and wastewater treatment processes, including physical, chemical and biological methods
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills
+ Experience of technical leadership
+ Track record of developing novel treatment solutions

Salary range:
$128,600.00 - $231,500.00
